FAQs

  • When would we start building?

We need to reach or exceed our initial fundraising goal of $4,000,000 before any work can begin. Once we’ve received that level of cash, we can complete our pre-construction work, seek financing, find a buyer for our Rosser Campus, and identify a construction timeline. Loans cannot be obtained, and buildings cannot be constructed based on pledges alone. The timeline will become clearer once we reach that initial goal.

  • Does our planning include the potential of increased building costs between now and when we start to build?

As we all know, construction costs tend to go up! Without having a precise date for construction to begin, our architect has done his best to estimate costs for us. Our budgets will include a contingency amount to account for this. If costs could go up beyond this, we trust that our Good Shepherd is leading us on a path and that the contours of His path might be different from our path. We desire to be faithful in following Him with all of the unknowns that can happen in life.

  • What fund is going to be used for the campaign?

We encourage everyone who gives to this project to select the Next Steps Fund to receive campaign giving. The Next Steps Fund is the way you can contribute to what’s next for Cornerstone, and this is our next step! On our online giving portal, that fund is now labeled “Next Steps Fund (Here to Stay).” We encourage you to continue with your regular giving to the General Fund (since all of our current church expenses continue during this time!), while making gifts above and beyond your regular giving to the Here to Stay Campaign.

  • How will the money be invested as it is given to the church?

We have excellent financial professionals within our church who oversee the management of all donations. They continue to work hard to maximize any gains through secure investments. This work will continue during the campaign.

  • Can a church of our size realistically run a campaign of this size?

This is a significant and challenging project! Based upon our research and the input of wise advisors we’ve been working with over the past year, a $4,000,000 campaign is a challenging but obtainable goal. In addition, the Elder Board is committed to not placing us further in debt than necessary, nor to a level that would be dangerous to our financial health.

  • What is the total estimated price of this project? Does that include Phase 2? How will we pay for this project?

The total estimated price of Phase 1 is $9,500,000. We are looking to fund this project via the Here to Stay campaign, the sale of our Rosser Campus, and a loan. Phase 2 costs are not included in that figure.

  • The auditorium’s capacity is described as 500 people. What happens if we outgrow the space? Will the Worship Center be built to allow easy expansion in the future if desired?

No! Our church’s regular attendance is significantly greater than the size of our membership. We have many non-members who are very committed and involved at Cornerstone. Our desire in this season is to see 100% of the people who consider Cornerstone their home to fully participate in this campaign, seeking to be obedient to what God directs them to do. We expect our members to be included in that 100% as an expression of their continued commitment to their Membership Covenant.

  • Have we considered putting names on buildings or rooms to honor high givers?

We have some people at Cornerstone who have significant assets. We have many people at Cornerstone who have been significantly blessed by God but do not have substantial assets. We also have some who live paycheck-to-paycheck. Our goal during this campaign is 100 - we want 100% of our church body to pray, listen, and obey what God has asked them to do. The person who does this while living on a very tight budget is just as honoring to God as the person who can write a large check. In a desire to honor all who pray, listen, and obey, we won’t be honoring people based on how much they give.

  • Will there be a coffee bar, prayer trail, prayer garden, or athletic fields on the campus?

Specific items will be determined as the building process continues. We do anticipate serving coffee in our lobby every Sunday, but are not likely to have a full coffee bar. We may have outdoor prayer areas at some point in the future. While we will likely have play areas for children and youth, the size and nature of our property dictate that it will not feature large athletic fields.

  • Is the lobby space sufficient for our Sunday morning needs? Will the deck be built in a way that can be expanded if desired in the future?

We are building as large a lobby as we can afford to help people stay and linger on Sundays, fostering deeper connections. The outdoor lobby/deck area will allow our total lobby size to reach nearly 50% of the auditorium's size. The deck is currently designed in a way that it could be expanded before or after construction.

  • Will there be opportunities to get on the property during the campaign? At previous churches, we were able to write prayers or verses on the hidden parts of buildings before the construction was completed. Will we be doing any vision and prayer meetings at the property so people can see the layout and become more invested in the project?

Once we begin construction, we will be excited about creative opportunities to involve the church family in seeing the future of Prescott Cornerstone and in praying for the project and our future. Some of these suggestions may be a part of that process!

While the property remains undeveloped, there are limitations to how we can access it. We encourage folks to pray and walk the sidewalk around the property if so desired. Stay tuned for opportunities through the Here to Stay campaign to learn more as we follow God’s leadership together.

  • How will we manage traffic on Sundays with two other churches in the area?

We are aware of the number of people who use the Larry Caldwell exit to access Heights and The Potters’ House each Sunday morning. We intend to stagger our service times around theirs to minimize congestion and coordinate any necessary efforts with them, making arrival and departure at our new campus as easy as possible. There is a secondary access to the property from the Downtown Prescott area off AZ-89 through the Walden Farms neighborhood via the turnoff at the Phippen Museum.

While we know that there will be more traffic near our new campus than our current worship venue, this piece of land was the best opportunity for us. The Elder Board spent nearly three years evaluating opportunities across Prescott. This property at the corner of Landmark Lane and Assurance Way met our needs in ways that no other property did and was within our budget to purchase and develop.
