Our Purpose
|
Our Values1. Upholding the Priority of the Bible (God’s Word). We believe that the Word of God is our only infallible source for truth in this world. We make it a primary aim to give our people a thorough understanding of the Bible and help them learn to think in a Biblical way. In keeping with this value we make expository (verse by verse) preaching and teaching a central aspect of our corporate gatherings. 2. Extending Grace. We emphasize God’s unconditional acceptance and full forgiveness through Jesus Christ. We seek to motivate people through love and thankfulness, rather than guilt, shame and duty. We strive to be a place where people can begin again, even after significant failure, through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. 3. Reaching Our World. We are called to help fulfill Christ’s Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), therefore we are committed to the worldwide missionary movement. We are committed to following Jesus’ example by speaking in a relevant way to people within their culture. Knowing that social, racial and generational differences can form significant barriers to hearing the gospel, we will seek to be sensitive to these hindrances as we proclaim God’s truth. 4. Emphasizing Relationship.God is an inherently relational being and relationships are a core part of what it means to be made in the image of God. Therefore we believe that helping people to develop healthy relationships with God & others is central to spiritual growth in Christ. We believe that an emphasis on healthy relationships is an important antidote to the increasing sense of personal isolation that many feel in our world today. 5. Developing People & Affirming Families. It is not our buildings, our programs, or anything else, that will determine the effectiveness of our church; it is the people who choose to make Cornerstone their church home. We seek to help people grow spiritually, believing that the greatest impact we can have on our world is through a spiritually mature congregation. 6. Giving God our BestWe serve a God who has both created a world of excellence and has given us the very best He had to offer - His Son, Jesus Christ. The most appropriate response of the disciple is to give back to God our very best. As Paul challenges us, “...work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men” (Colossians 3:23). But, in light of God’s grace, our standard is a commitment to excellence, not a demand for perfection. |
